Relatives dune murder: ‘If you’re so tough, you should show up’

“It is especially important for them that the case has really started now.” This is how lawyer Wendy van Egmond describes the feeling of her client, the sister of the murdered Peter Langenberg. She and her lawyer attended the first public hearing on the murder of the Alkmaarder in April.

Peter Langenberg (56) is through brutally killed. His body was undressed on Easter Sunday and found with very serious facial injuries in the dunes north of Egmond. The suspect Jent S. from Egmond aan Zee was arrested within a week.

His DNA was found on the victim’s body, according to the Public Prosecution Service. The suspect himself was not present at this first hearing, and he invokes his right to remain silent during interrogations. According to lawyer Van Egmond, the family thinks that is a ‘weakness’:

The trial continues in October. Even then it will be a non-substantive session.
