The night of New Year’s Eve passed relatively quietly in the Wilhelmina Hospital in Assen and the UMCG in Groningen. One fireworks victim arrived in Groningen.

“That was quite serious,” says spokesperson Lex Kloosterman. “The victim suffered facial injuries.” Two more fireworks victims arrived at the UMCG on New Year’s Eve. This also involved serious facial injuries.

Mainly alcohol and drug admissions in the UMCG

Kloosterman: “In addition, there were nine alcohol and drug-related admissions to the emergency department.” The emergency room doctors at the UMCG speak of a quiet night.

This concerns more recordings than last year: there were two fireworks victims with minor injuries and no one came in who had consumed too much alcohol and drugs.

No fireworks victims in the WZA

It was also a normal night in Assen, emergency doctor Aniek Crombach of the Wilhelmina Hospital said. “It wasn’t really different from other weekends. We did not have any fireworks victims, but we did have some patients with an overdose. For example, someone had fallen off his bicycle.”
