Reinout Oerlemans has an infinite amount of power, but that is apparently not enough. In his search for even more money, he is now arguing with half of the Jordaan.

52-year-old Reinout Oerlemans has more than enough money to not lift a finger for the rest of his life, but he is not yet done enriching himself. He now wants to cash in even more millions of euros with an extremely lucrative real estate project in Amsterdam, but local residents in the Jordaan are furious.

Oerlemans project

Reinout may have lived in Los Angeles for years, but he still owns real estate in our capital. And also a parking lot behind the national monument on Raamplein, where the head office of his TV company Eyeworks used to be. He has been trying to build a complex there for years and years and now he finally seems to have the municipality on board.

This concerns the site behind the former Public Trade School. Coincidentally, Chantal Janzen is moving there today with her magazine &C. The land behind was once intended as a garden, but is now a parking lot. The new Oerlemans real estate project maintains a distance of only three meters from the national monument.

Fat wallet

According to Het Parool the neighborhood is opposing the plans. “You are not going to build in the garden of the Rijksmuseum,” says an angry resident. “The only person who benefits from this is one person with a deep wallet.”

Reinout also made attempts to build there in 2013 and 2018. “Now he’s trying again. There is good money to be made from it and you never know: new round, new civil servants, new opportunities,” the neighborhood petition states.

The aesthetics committee has already approved the plans, but the race is not yet complete.

‘I did not know’

Gijs Groenteman thinks it’s strange that Reinout is still interfering in our capital’s real estate market from Los Angeles, he says in his talk show Van Roosmalen & Groenteman. “I didn’t know Reinout Oerlemans did this at all. Building things, apartment complexes.”

Table guest Khalid Kasem responds: “I think he sold the most expensive house in Los Angeles not too long ago, so he doesn’t really have to do it for the money, right?”

Gijs is surprised: “He doesn’t want to live in all those apartments himself, does he?”

Khalid: “It’s a trade.”

‘It’s business!’

Gijs does not understand why Reinout thinks all this is necessary: “Isn’t this just some kind of real estate project of his? What a busy owner he is, isn’t he?”

Marcel van Roosmalen: “He makes programs for the people, he builds houses for the people. It won’t be long before he starts handing out food!”

And Evert Santegoeds in the evening in Shownieuws: “It would make Reinout even richer than he has already become in the few years that he has made TV programs for the Netherlands and the world.”
