A spelling mistake can be corrected quickly in everyday life. On a town sign, however, it cannot be removed so quickly – as the Berlin district of Reinickendorf also had to find out.
Until recently there was a sign on the Ruppiner Chaussee with the wrong inscription “Reickendorf”, which is now to be replaced.
“The new sign should be up by the end of next week at the latest,” promised the spokeswoman for the district office, Katharina Schulz, on Tuesday. According to a dpa reporter, only the frame was still standing on Tuesday afternoon.
It was initially unclear how the spelling error came about. “We did the right thing. It was probably printed incorrectly by the printer,” said Schulz.

But not only in Reinickendorf did a spelling mistake on a place name sign cause a stir.
In the Brandenburg municipality of Kloster Lehnin, the district of Damsdorf also got two wrongly written signs: “Dahmsdorf” was wrongly written on a sign at the entrance to the town and at the end of a town. The district, which is responsible for place-name signs on district roads, explained: “The new signs have been ordered”.
The municipality of Kloster Lehnin would have liked to keep the old sign. “We wanted to keep it in a worthy place and have made an application,” said a spokesman. But the sign with the wrong inscription should still serve its purpose – then hopefully with the correct spelling.
