Regionalliga West: Racist incident – Wattenscheid 09 asks for help

The 1-1 draw between Wattenscheid 09 and RW Oberhausen in the Regionalliga West quickly became a minor matter: referee Jonah Besong reported a racist insult to an unknown person.

As the SG reported in a statement, there was a racist incident after the game between SG Wattenscheid 09 and RW Oberhausen on Saturday: Referee Jonah Besong from Duisburg was apparently racially insulted by an unknown spectator when he left the field and Subsequent criminal charges filed.

The 24-year-old also wrote a corresponding report to the association.

“SGW strongly condemns the incident”

The Bochum suburb club with its chairman Christian Pozo y Tamayo then wrote in a statement on its website: “The SGW condemns this incident in the strongest possible terms and clearly distances itself from the statements made. Discrimination of any kind has no place in the club!”

The club announced: “We are supporting the police in their search for the perpetrator. As soon as his personal details are known, we will take appropriate steps so that he cannot attend any games at the Lohrheide Stadium in the future.”

Opponent Oberhausen helps

According to the club, opponents RW Oberhausen will also support the Wattenscheiders in identifying the perpetrator because it is not clear from which fan camp the perpetrator comes. Witnesses who can provide information about the man are asked to contact the Wattenscheid office.
