Refurbishment for German highway (A3) where four Dutch people were killed

The German A3 motorway just across the border at Zevenaar is being tackled after a fatal accident on March 26 in which four Dutch people were killed.

The authorities suspect that two Dutch Porsches skidded due to aquaplaning at the Elten – Beek exit during heavy rain. In any case, gravel will be poured into the central reservation instead of the current asphalt to drain rainwater faster.

The stretch of Autobahn near the Dutch border was already renewed last September. According to police, several accidents have occurred on this stretch of road since the renovation in September, local media reported. It is being investigated whether there is a connection between the accidents. The new road surface may also play a role.
