Refugees in Fletcher Hotel Heiloo are allowed to stay longer

The 80 refugees who are accommodated in the Fletcher Hotel in Heiloo are allowed to stay an extra year. According to the municipality, the shelter has ‘gone well’ over the past six months.

People have been accommodated in the hotel since last June. That worked not without a fight: for residents the decision came as a bolt from the blue. The municipality had not announced anything in advance at the time. Hotel guests even had to… cancel weddingbecause there was suddenly no room for it anymore.

Nevertheless, the municipality writes in the press release that the past six months have been a success: “Including a weekly coffee moment to stimulate connections between residents and newcomers.”

Information evening

In addition, the municipality writes that reception capacity is still under high pressure and that there is a high influx of asylum seekers in Ter Apel. For residents who have questions, an information evening is planned at the hotel on Wednesday, November 29.
