Berlin’s refugee costs are rising, federal aid is falling.

Berlin’s Finance Senator Stefan Evers (43, CDU) calculates before the federal-state meeting on Wednesday: “In 2021, before the start of the Ukraine war, Berlin spent 740 million euros on taking in refugees – of which the federal government took over 250 million euros .”

This year, on the other hand, only 150 million euros are expected so far – despite a drastic increase in the number of asylum seekers. Evers: “That will not be enough at the back and front.”

In the last week of April, 264 asylum seekers had to be accommodated – and 199 Ukrainians.

In the first quarter, 2845 asylum seekers landed in Berlin, mainly from Georgia, Turkey, Afghanistan, Syria and Moldova. Twice as many as two years before with 1372 refugees.
