Refreshed Alkmaar National Beer Museum reopened

The Alkmaar beer museum has used the corona crisis to take things seriously. Last Friday the museum was reopened by an employee of sponsor Heineken and two Alkmaar faces; mayor Anja Schouten and former mayor Emile Roemer.

“The renovation took a year and a half, but then you have something,” says Joost de Vries, treasurer of the museum. “It is now also possible to hold meetings and parties here. In addition, the museum itself has also changed and that was necessary. The museum opened in 1986 and nothing has actually changed until the renovation.”

National Beer Museum De Boom tells the story of one of the most popular alcoholic drinks. Because, according to the museum, Alkmaar is not only a cheese city, but also a real beer city. “Beer brewing has really influenced the appearance of the city,” emphasizes mayor Anja Schouten. “You often don’t realize how much is hidden behind beer and that comes together in the museum.” And for Emile Roemer, former mayor and patron of the museum, it was another trip to Alkmaar. “I am very happy to be able to admire the bustling Alkmaar every now and then.”
