Reflection, Ukrainian film about the Donbass war in free previews

This is the case with the film Reflection by the Ukrainian director Valentyn Vasjanovyč – that the Venice Film Festival together with the distributor Wanted will project for free in Rome, Milan and Venice.

The plot of Reflection

A work of raw realism, he tells the story diplomatic-military clash between Russia and Ukrainestarted in February 2014 for the control of Crimea and Donbass. And evidently never resolved, given the recent war implications affecting the area.

The story starts from the events of Ukrainian surgeon Serhiy (Roman Lutskiy), who is captured by Russian military forces in Donbass, eastern Ukraine.

After the release, tries with difficulty to return to everyday life dedicating himself to rebuilding relations with his daughter and ex-wife. These same themes – the horror and violence of war – are also present in Vasjanovyč’s previous film, Atlantis (Award for the best film in the Horizons section at the Venice Exhibition 2019 e Ukrainian Oscar nominee), set in a future that, unfortunately, seems very near.

Eastern Ukraine after the war is it has become an inhospitable area and unsuitable for human presence. Here Sergeij, a former soldier suffering from post-traumatic stress, tries to adapt to the new reality by specializing in recover corpses of war.
