Referee Tobias Krull receives tickets for the DFB Cup final

Tobias Krull had to step in at short notice when VfL Wolfsburg drew 1-1 against Cologne. The DFB thanks you with tickets for the cup final.

Referee Tobias Krull receives two tickets for the DFB Cup final in Berlin after his spontaneous assignment as fourth official in the Bundesliga game between VfL Wolfsburg and 1. FC Köln. The DFB confirmed this when asked by t-online.

In addition, there was a letter of thanks for the 32-year-old referee at district level, which was signed by the two DFB managing directors Lutz Fröhlich and Florian Götte, as well as a referee jersey signed by all referees. According to t-online information, there will be no separate financial compensation.

“The train left”

Krull, who attended the Wolfsburg-Cologne game last Saturday as a spectator, stepped in at short notice as fourth official. Assistant referee Thorben Siewer was hit in the head by the match ball after just over a quarter of an hour, so he was unable to continue and had to be replaced by the regular fourth official Nicolas Winter. So a replacement was needed.

“When the game was interrupted, I jokingly said to my companion that she didn’t have to worry about the game continuing because I had a referee’s license and could step in if necessary. Seven minutes later the stadium announcement came that “We are actually looking for a referee to take on the role of fourth official,” says Krull, describing the process in an interview with dfb.de.

According to his own statement, his nervousness was limited; he used to play for the second team at VfL Wolfsburg. However, he is ruling out a future career as a professional referee in the Bundesliga. “That’s probably where the train left. As long as I’m still playing myself, I can’t fully concentrate on the refereeing job. When the time comes one day, I’ll be too old to make it to the higher leagues,” said Krull, who is the goalkeeper between the posts for the regional league team MTV Gifhorn.

By the way, VfL Wolfsburg is playing another home game on Sunday, this time TSG Hoffenheim is the guest. The 4th official is Dr. Max Burda reported.
