Referee Ittrich probably saved the Mainz professional’s life

There was a nasty collision during the game between FC Bayern and Mainz 05. Referee Ittrich reacted quickly – and probably saved a life.

The scene occurred after 33 minutes. During the Bundesliga game between FC Bayern and 1. FSV Mainz 05, Josuha Guilavogui and his teammate Anthony Caci had an unfortunate collision. The midfielder received his colleague’s knee in the head. Seconds later, Guilavogui remained unconscious, not moving. A shocking moment for everyone involved in the Allianz Arena.

Referee Patrick Ittrich recognized the situation immediately. The 45-year-old immediately provided first aid, put Guilavogui in the recovery position – and probably saved the Frenchman’s life.

Guilavogui swallows his tongue – Itrrich helps immediately

Because: Guilavogui had swallowed his tongue, as Ittrich revealed after the game in the mixed zone of the stadium. “If someone is lying there like that, you have to act quickly,” said the referee. “I’ve experienced many situations like this. The tongue was in the back and when it’s out again, you start breathing again and you’re there again.”

Guilavogui regained consciousness a short time later. But things didn’t go any further for the 33-year-old. He had to be replaced. Meanwhile, the players on the field also noticed how tricky the whole thing was. “Nadiem Amiri immediately hugged me because he realized it was an explosive situation,” said Ittrich about the ex-national player in the service of Mainz.

Without Guilavogui, the 05ers also suffered badly in Munich. In the end they lost 1:8.
