Referee forbids the Pro Vercelli player’s veil and suspends the match

The episode that took place during the match between the Turin Academy and FC Pro Vercelli, in the women’s Under 19 championship, is discussed. The protagonist is Maroua Morchid, player of the women’s Pro Vercelli, who on her Facebook profile “strongly condemns the episode”.

Bitter finish

There are 5 minutes left until the final whistle when Maroua Morchid enters the field with a hijab to cover her head. The race director orders her to take it off, apparently because he is worried about the safety of the girl who also had a neck warmer attached to her veil. “After the initial dismay and amazement, at the requests for clarification from all the players and our managers, Domenico Limardi and Laura Sartirana, the referee decided to blow the whistle to end the match”, says Pro Vercelli. Who, on Facebook, “expresses the utmost solidarity and closeness to Maroua and thanks the Turin Academy for the human closeness and sporting solidarity expressed right from the start”.
