The US sporting goods brand Reebok wants to strengthen its presence in the team sports segment with a prominent figurehead. On Thursday, the fashion and media group Authentic Brands Group LLC (ABG), which has owned the label since 2022, announced the appointment of Shaquille O’Neal to the newly created position of President of Reebok Basketball.
In his new role, the former superstar will now lead the strategic development of Reebok’s basketball division and drive partnerships with players and organizations. O’Neal and Reebok have a long history together. The brand had already signed the basketball professional at the beginning of his career in 1992, the following long-term partnership resulted in numerous popular sneaker models and has since given Reebok a global leadership role as a basketball supplier.
The label now wants to build on these heydays. Another prominent ex-professional will be able to help with this. Allen Iverson, who also has a long history with Reebok, has been promoted to vice president of Reebok Basketball. In the future, he will recruit new athletes for the brand and get involved in special grassroots events and sporting events.
