The reduction of the excise duty on petrol and diesel as of April 1, announced last week, will also apply to LPG and LNG. State Secretary van Rij promised this in a debate with the House of Representatives today.
It was announced last week that the excise duty on petrol and diesel will be reduced by 17.3 cents and 11.1 cents per liter from April 1, 2022 until the end of the year. The excise duty on LPG (including liquid propane and butane) and LNG will also be reduced by 4.1 cents per liter.
This means a reduction of € 2.22 per full tank of LPG/LNG of 45 liters (the average volume of a tank of a car in the B segment). For a petrol car this is a reduction of € 9.42 per tank and for a diesel car it is € 6.04 per tank.
The reduction in excise duties on LPG/LNG represents a budget loss of €11 million. This amount is in line with the amount of more than € 1 billion that had already been reserved for the excise tax measure.
The reduction in excise duties on fuel is part of a broader package of measures taken by the government to help people cope with rising energy prices and ongoing inflation, with a focus on low and middle incomes. More information about this can be found here.
