It is not unusual for WhatsApp to roll out minor updates at regular intervals. However, the past changes were all of a larger caliber – including the currently planned design changes of the messenger.
WhatsApp is making a whole slew of major changes right now. It was only recently introduced that pictures and videos can finally be sent in high HD resolution. This feature had long been requested by Messenger users. In the next step, WhatsApp now wants to visibly adjust its design via an update. But what exactly should change?
WhatsApp adapts its design via update
In fact, WhatsApp probably intends to significantly revise the Android version of the app in particular. In recent months, beta testers have reported that the menu bar has moved from the top to the bottom of the display. Some of the buttons are no longer round, but square with rounded edges. Now the always well-informed source reports WABetaInfo from another highly visible revision of the design. Specifically, it is about the beta version 2.23.18.18.
As a result, the color of the app’s header should change. So far, the field has been kept in the typical WhatsApp green. In the future, however, the area should have a white background with green elements – at least in the standard version. If you use the dark mode, you probably don’t have to expect changes, at least in terms of color. The font in the menu bar also changes a bit with the new design.
New symbols, buttons and filter options
However, the symbols will probably be partially adapted for both variants. While the prominent symbols of the camera for photos and the magnifying glass for the search function are retained, the profile photo is then right next to it. You can access your own account information and make adjustments if necessary. The reason for this is probably that WhatsApp will soon introduce the long-awaited function that allows you to use the messenger with multiple profiles.
In addition, as in an e-mail inbox, several filter options should be available directly above the list of chats. You can then display all unread, personal or business messages with a single tap. This function was already available in several variants in earlier beta versions.
When will the update for the new WhatsApp design come?
It is not yet known when exactly the changes will be implemented across the board. With such a major design change, WhatsApp may take a little more time than usual with the update. However, since the function is already in beta, participants in the test version can at least get an idea of the adjustments.
So far, the changes seem to be mostly relevant for Android users. Similar design adjustments were also confirmed for the iOS test version. For iPhone users, however, the menu bar has long been at the bottom edge of the display. The color and icon changes described are therefore more interesting for the iOS version.
