Red wolves have been born in the wild for the first time in four years: ‘Hope for extinct species’ | Abroad

The Red Wolf Recovery Program staff and US Fish and Wildlife in North Carolina welcomed the litter of red wolf puppies earlier this week. The newborn pups, four females and two males, were found in the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge off the coast of northeastern North Carolina.

“A new litter of red wolf pups offers renewed hope for a species’ survival! This new nest is the first wild-born nest of red wolves since 2018,” the employees wrote in a Facebook post. This pair of red wolves was formed through several management actions and the two red wolves then followed their natural instincts in establishing their territory and mating. Each generation brings a new hope for the red wolf… a cause for joy and celebration!”
