The Red Hot Chili Peppers will release their new album Unlimited Love in April. For the first time since 2006, guitarist John Frusciante will also be heard on a Peppers record. The 17 tracks were produced by Rick Rubin.
“Our only goal is to lose ourselves in the music. We’ve spent thousands of hours, collectively and individually, honing our craft and striving for one another to make the best album possible,” the band said in a statement. One is very grateful to be able to make music together again, to jam, to compose and now to be able to share the fruits of this work with the world.
From covers to jams to new songs
John Frusciante added in a statement of his own: “When we first started writing material we started out playing old songs by the likes of Johnny ‘Guitar’ Watson, The Kinks, The New York Dolls, Richard Barrett and others. Little by little we started coming up with new ideas and turning jams into songs and after a few months we just started playing the new stuff. That feeling of effortless fun we had playing other people’s songs stayed with us the entire time we wrote. To me, this record represents our love for one another and our belief in one another.”
Fortunately, fans of the band don’t have to wait until April for new music. Because the single “Black Summer” from the new album can already be heard here:
Big stadium tour planned for summer
After the album release, RHCP is also planning a big stadium tour in the summer, which will also take the band to Germany for two concerts in July. One in Cologne, one in Hamburg. On the tour, the band will be supported by well-known artists such as The Strokes, Beck, St. Vincent, HAIM, A$AP Rocky, Anderson Paak, Thundercat, and King Princess as opening acts.
“Unlimited Love” is the band’s twelfth album and is scheduled for release on April 1st. The album follows 2016’s The Getaway.
