Everything and everyone thought that Telstar secured the victory over Willem II in injury time, but David Min’s winning goal was blown off. An elbow from Glynor Plet made the referee decide to disallow Min’s world goal. As a result, the chance of the playoffs has become nil. “It had to be tonight”, says trainer Mike Snoei, who got red because of comments on the arbitration.
A long ball from the back was headed by Özgur Aktas, after which Glynor Plet fouled Willem II defender Erik Schouten. David Min shot the ball in unparalleled from the bottom of the crossbar and everyone was on the benches. “A great duel between Schouten and Plet and then it is a pity that it is rejected.”
Min
Leading actor David Min previously thought he had the winning on his foot. He worked a low cross from DJ Buffonge with his heel past goalkeeper Kostas Lamprou, but Schouten from the West Frisian Westwoud cleared the ball off the line. “I could certainly have made two. That heel could have been used and the other one should not have been rejected,” says Min.
Telstar played for the last chance to win the play-offs. The White Lions had the knife between their teeth and made an excellent impression against number four Willem II. “We grabbed Willem II by the throat. The last fifteen minutes there was panic in the tent and we took care of that.”
“We just have to have 52 points. Then we were really full in the race”
After 36 games, Telstar is at 50 points. With that, it still has four points less than number eight VVV-Venlo, which lost points at Helmond Sport. “We should have just had 52 points. Then we were really full in the race,” said Snoei, who described VVV-Venlo’s loss of points as a ‘lifebuoy’. “We are now dependent on others.”
