In the Motegi race of the Japanese Super Formula series, a wild mass crash was seen over the weekend.

The situation started when Red Bull’s junior driver Liam Lawson lost control of his car during the hectic opening lap battle.

The New Zealander spun in the middle of the track directly into the lane of the riders behind. Collisions could not be avoided due to quick evasive attempts.

Mixed Tadasuke Makino that Yuhi Sekiguchi hit Lawson’s car with the result that the formulas spun the wrong way. Makino’s car did a full flip in the air, landing straight, Sekiguchi instead landed upside down.

To our great relief, no one was injured in the crash.

21-year-old Lawson is ready to join the F1 series next season. The New Zealander, who finished third in the F2 series last year, is second in the Super Formula series points before the season finale in Suzuka.
