Table leader Red Bull Munich has had to accept a setback in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL).
Coach Don Jackson’s team lost the top game at ex-champion Adler Mannheim 2:3 (1:2, 0:1, 1:0), but remains at the top despite their sixth defeat of the season.
The defending champions Eisbären Berlin are completely different and are still not really gaining momentum. The 2:3 (2:2, 0:1, 0:0) against favorite opponent Kölner Haie meant the tenth defeat in the 16th game for the champions. Berlin had won the last twelve duels with the sharks. This time, however, the polar bears were unable to counter the third Cologne goal by Nicholas Bailen (39th).
Munich managed to catch up in the final third through Yasin Ehliz (50th). Matthew Donovan (3rd), Matthias Plachta (17th) and Stefan Loibl (25th) were successful for Mannheim, and goalkeeper Arno Tiefensee proved to be a strong support. In addition to Ehliz, only Andreas Eder (10th) could overcome the 20-year-old.
Thanks to a 4:1 (2:0, 0:0, 2:1) at the Iserlohn Roosters, ERC Ingolstadt improved to second place and benefited from the 1:3 (0:1, 1:0, 0:2) of the Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven vs Nuremberg Ice Tigers.
