Cloetta, the Swedish candy company behind Red Band wine gum and Sportlife chewing gum, wants to close its two factories in Roosendaal. A factory in Turnhout, Belgium, also has to close. The candy company is going to build a new factory in the Netherlands.
A total of 350 employees in the Netherlands and Belgium will be affected by the plans. Most of the staff can work in the new factory, according to Cloetta. Cloetta wants to talk to the European Participation Council and the local trade unions.
It is not immediately clear where the new factory should be located, but according to Cloetta, the new factory should enable further growth by, among other things, modernizing the processes. At the same time, the new factory would emit much less CO2.
Start construction next year
Cloetta, which is also known for the Läkerol sweets, wants to start building the new factory next year. The first candy should roll off the production line there in 2026.
