Recreationalists can test the renewed VAM mountain once just before the European Championships

Although the renewed VAM mountain will only open in the course of next year, amateur cyclists will soon be able to make a test round. Three days before the VAM mountain is the setting for the European Cycling Championships, a tour of the European Championship course will be held.

The VAM mountain is currently being raised. Now the top is at 48 meters, the new ‘Roof of Drenthe’ will be 63 meters high. The climb is then almost 500 meters long. The maximum gradient will be 16.4 percent.

The tour is on September 17 and is organized by Jumbo. “It is a unique opportunity for recreational cyclists to experience the course of the 2023 European Cycling Championships. We can start counting down,” says deputy Henk Brink.

After the European Championships, the climb will be closed, so that the work can be completed. In the course of the 2024 cycling season, the renewed VAM mountain will be officially opened.

Two weeks ago it was announced that the European Championship course would go over the new Roof of Drenthe:
