Recreation pool Stappegoor Tilburg closed due to rusted bolts and loose panel

The recreational pool of the Stappegoor swimming pool in Tilburg is closed immediately. A panel in the roof dome is loose and bolts in the outer wall are corroded. That needs to be fixed urgently. The swimming pool will certainly remain closed until Friday.

The problems came to light during an inspection of the pool. When facade and insulation panels were removed, employees saw that the vapour-tight layer was no longer in order. This layer ensures a separation between the outdoor and indoor air.

The bolts that hold the outer facade turned out to be affected. These bolts are made of stainless steel and are sensitive to a combination of temperature, humidity and chlorine vapour.

These types of bolts may therefore not be used in swimming pools, but on the outside of the building. They should be replaced with hot-dip galvanized bolts so that the facade cannot come loose. That work started on Monday.

Panel not tight
During the inspection it also turned out that a panel in the roof dome of the leisure pool was not properly secured. According to the municipality, this has nothing to do with the rusted bolts.

Because the panels may fall down, the leisure pool has been closed since last Thursday. The sports pool, outdoor pool and robben pool will remain open.

Scaffolding is being built in the leisure pool to enable the panel to be repaired. Because the scaffolding is there anyway, maintenance will also be carried out immediately this week.

Additional research
The municipality calls the temporary closure ‘obviously very annoying’ for the users of the swimming pool. The activities in the recreational pool will be moved to other parts of the pool. The municipality hopes that this will cause as little inconvenience as possible.

To make sure that swimming pools Drieburcht and Reeshof do not have the same problems, extra research is also being done there.
