It makes sense that yesterday didn’t feel like a classic Christmas Day. The average temperature broke all records, according to NH weatherman Jan Visser. Rain is never far away in the coming days, but there is a chance of a dry New Year’s Eve.
With a ‘daily average’ of 11.6 degrees, Christmas Day was incredibly mild. The maximum temperature was also the third highest ever measured at 12.5 degrees in De Bilt. Only in 2015 it was even warmer at 14 degrees. On Christmas Eve, the 24-hour average was also 11.6 degrees, equaling the record set in 1977.
According to the weatherman, the ‘moving December average’ is now 6.5 degrees, while it normally remains at 4.2 degrees. It has only happened four times that December has been even milder.
It also rained heavily on Christmas Day, especially in Purmerend and Zaandam. According to Visser, that looked a lot better today.
Strong wind
“This morning the sun was shining regularly in many regions and it remains dry almost everywhere.” There were a few showers this afternoon, but tonight it will clear and remain dry. The afternoon temperatures are between 8 and 11 degrees.
Visser: “The wind blew from the west, veering to the northwest in the north and was moderate.” The wind was strong at first along the coast and on the IJsselmeer and hard in the Wadden.
Tomorrow it will rain mainly in the morning. The maximum temperature is 9 to 10 degrees. The wind initially blows moderately from the southeast. “In the afternoon the wind will shift to the south and become moderate to quite strong and strong to strong at the sea and on the IJsselmeer. During Wednesday evening it will rain again and the wind will shift to the southwest.”
Mixed prospects
There is a chance of persistently changeable weather on Thursday and Friday, with a regular chance of rain and/or showers on both days. The temperature will be 10 to 12 degrees on Thursday, temperatures will be a bit lower on Friday. On Thursday, a strong, possibly stormy southwest wind will blow on the coast.
According to the weatherman, the weather will be calmer and drier during New Year’s Eve, with slightly lower temperatures.
