Lovers of old cars could enjoy their luck in Coevorden today. After two corona years, it was finally time for the 10th edition of the Oldtimerdag. The organization received a total of 300 applications, a record number.
Enthusiasts of historic vehicles come from all over the Netherlands and Germany to show their precious possessions to the public. Organizer Hans Wortelboer is proud that the entire center is filled with vintage cars and that he sees so many happy people. “You see people enjoying themselves, I am happy, they are happy, we are all happy,” says Wortelboer with a big smile. “I’ve always liked cars, I have several old-timers myself.”
A car that attracts a lot of attention in Coevorden is a DeLorean. “It’s stainless steel, but it looks like a magnet because it attracts a lot of people,” says DeLorean enthusiast Jakko Loof. “This model was used for the movie Back to the Future. Where other kids in my childhood had posters of a Ferrari or a Porsche on the wall, I wanted a DeLorean. It was my childhood dream.”
All vehicles will be parked on and around the Market Square and the Damped Port. Then they make a tour through the region. There are two routes, one is for trekkers and has a length of twenty kilometers. The other route is for the cars and is sixty kilometers. “We visit all the beautiful places in our municipality,” says Wortelboer.
