In difficult wind conditions, Pole Dawid Kubacki snatched victory on the seventh day of the Norwegian Raw Air Tour in Lillehammer – breaking a national record. He then showed how self-confident the ski jumping stars currently are.
“I had no doubts that I could jump well,” said day winner Dawid Kubacki after his jumps of 137.5 and 138.5 meters to “skijumping.pl” and also emphasized: “It was harder for me and everyone has it seen.”
The wind conditions had caused a lot of chaos. In the end he was 7.4 points ahead of Anze Lanisek from Slovenia, Austria’s Daniel Tschofenig was 10.1 points behind.
Dawid Kubacki had recently felt “a bit tired”, sometimes he had “thinked too much” in the past few days and thus missed the chance of a better placement. “These are the mistakes I made. On Thursday there were fewer of those mistakes and the joy of jumping and getting back on the podium is back.”
Kubacki doesn’t want to know about the record yet
For the 33-year-old it was the eleventh World Cup victory of his career. This season is going particularly well for the two-time Olympic bronze medalist: With 15 podium finishes in just one winter season, he broke Adam Malysz’s Polish record. He was on top of the podium six times, finished second four times and third five times.
“It’s nice to look at the statistics, but not now,” Kubacki quickly shifted his mental focus away from the personal milestone: “We still have a little bit ahead of us this season. We can talk about it after the season, but of course it’s good news .”
The competitions in Vikersund are now on the program on the Raw Air Tour. The ski jumping entourage then travels to the World Cup in Lahti, Finland, and finally back to the World Cup venue Planica.
As the best German, Markus Eisenbichler narrowly missed his second podium finish of the winter on Thursday. The six-time world champion had to settle for fourth place despite a hill record of 146 meters.
