The North Macedonian record goalscorer Goran Pandev has announced the end of his football career.
“A beautiful chapter comes to an end,” wrote the 39-year-old on Instagram on Thursday: “It was an incredible journey.” He announced his retirement from the national team after last year’s European Championship.
In 122 international matches, Pandev scored 39 goals for North Macedonia, including one in the historic 2-1 away win in March 2021 in World Cup qualifiers against the German national team.
At club level, the striker won the Italian league, cup and Champions League treble with Inter Milan in 2010 under coach Jose Mourinho. In the final of the premier class, Inter defeated the German record champions Bayern Munich.
Pandev spent most of his career in Italy. Most recently he was under contract with the second division club Parma Calcio.
