Record goalscorer Ekberg leaves THW Kiel

Handball record champion THW Kiel loses its record goalscorer at the end of the season: Swedish right winger Niclas Ekberg is leaving Kiel after twelve years and moving back home to his training club Ystads IF. The THW announced this on Thursday.

“The years in Kiel were a time full of fulfilled dreams. I experienced everything you could possibly expect in your professional life. I won everything you could win with THW Kiel. From the summer onwards there will be something for me and mine “The family now has a future at home in Sweden,” said the 34-year-old.

Ekberg, London’s Olympic top scorer, moved from AG Copenhagen to Kiel in 2012 and won the German championship six times, the DHB Cup four times and the Champions League once with the club. He resigned from Sweden’s national team in October.
