Actually, the German record champion was also able to call himself a “two-time club world champion”. This is now apparently over-because of a change in the World Cinging Association.

FC Bayern subsequently lost two of its international titles – at least officially. In 2013 and 2020, the Munich club World Cup had actually won, and since then also performed the two titles under his successes.

But now there is a significant change: In the new statistics of FIFA, FC Bayern will only appear as a “FIFA Intercontinental Champion”. This new category replaces the previous award as a “club world champion”.

The background is the introduction of the Reformed Club World Cup format, which is considered a completely new competition for FIFA. In mid-July, FC Chelsea had prevailed in mid-July with a clear 3-0 win against Paris Saint-Germain. The Londoners are the first official club world champion in the new format-and keep this title for the next four years until the next issue.

The decision of FIFA does not only affect Bavaria, but also all other previous winners of the club World Cup between 2000 and 2023. Other top clubs such as FC Barcelona or Real Madrid are officially losing their status as club world champions.
