One of the all-time quarterbacks in American football Brett Favre52, has been thrust into the spotlight this week with leaked text message revelations.
Favre’s actions are related to the fraud case that came to the news this week, in which the head of a non-profit association Nancy New accused of diverting tens of millions of dollars intended for charity to completely different addresses.
Messages sent in 2017 reveal that Favre wanted the charity pot to be used to finance the construction of a volleyball hall at his daughter’s school. The sum invested in the hall project is said to have been five million dollars.
In the exchange of messages with New, Favre wants to be assured that his name would remain a secret if the money was successfully delivered. Later, the man rejoices that the governor of Mississippi Phil Bryant has given the figure his support behind the scenes.
The US federal police FBI has already interviewed the former American football superstar about the allegations. Favre has been forced to return $1.1 million he was paid for giving speeches he never gave.
The posts are part of a civil suit accusing the Mississippi Department of Homeland Security of misappropriating $77 million in welfare benefits. Nancy New has denied all 13 charges, according to which she has siphoned money from the poor for other purposes. According to the auditor, it is the largest case of fraud of public funds in the history of the state.
