For the fifth home game in a row, Telstar has achieved a result at home. They scored a good point against title candidate Roda JC: 1-1. The White Lions even had the better chances and perhaps more.
In the context of nofar change a winning team, coach Uli Landvreugd chose the same eleven players as against Jong Ajax. Last Monday, the Velsen team won 0-3 and therefore left the bottom of the table. After the dismissal of trainer Mike Snoei, Telstar achieved seven points from three games, so the meeting with number two Roda JC was an extremely interesting encounter.
Out of the starting blocks
The first chance was immediately for Telstar. Thomas Oude Kotte came close after a few minutes from a corner kick. The strong opening phase continued for the home team, as they took the lead after fifteen minutes. Tim van de Loo had an excellent solo, shot against goalkeeper Calvin Raatsie, after which Youssef El Kachati made it 1-0 on the rebound. This means he has scored five goals in the last five matches.
Even after the opening goal, Telstar continued to play football in good spirits. The home team remained the dominant party against the promotion candidate. Van de Loo had a great chance and a free kick from Christos Giousis went just wide. Only in the closing stages of the first half did Roda JC become really dangerous. Goalkeeper Ronald Koeman Jr. saved on Arjen van der Heide’s effort and thus prevented the equalizer.

Equal struggle
Although Telstar was doing so well, it immediately hit a setback at the start of the second half. Vaclav Sejk brought the Limburgers alongside by scoring the 1-1 score. Yet Telstar was not fooled and continued to create opportunities. Danzell Gravenberch was invisible for a long time, but had plenty of opportunities. The crowd even thought about a goal, but one of the bets went into the side netting.
A bravely fighting Telstar went in search of victory in the final phase. This also applied to Roda JC, which desperately needs the points in the battle for promotion. Walid Ould-Chikh came close with a long shot, but Koeman Jr. saved on his bet.
After the draw, Telstar has 24 points from 28 games, making it number 16 in the first division. Next week, De Witte Leeuwen will visit FC Dordrecht.
