FC Volendam has booked a great victory in the fight against relegation. In their own stadium, the team of coach Wim Jonk won 2-0 against Vitesse thanks to two goals from Daryl van Mieghem. As a result, FC Volendam climbs to fourteenth place in the Eredivisie.
Prior to the match, the death of club legend Wim Kras was discussed. He passed away last Tuesday at the age of 79. The stadium bore his name once and before kick-off there was great applause for the Volendam who played in the first team between 1959 and 1974.

Vitesse played with mourning bands, because former player Atsu had died in the earthquake in Turkey.
Last week, trainer Wim Jonk struggled with some absentees from the training. Jonk could not rely on keeper Filip Stankovic and attackers Robert Mühren and Bilal Ould-Chikh. As a result, Barry Lauwers made his premier league debut under the crossbar and Daryl van Mieghem returned to the starting line-up.
On the other hand, the (temporary) return of Gaetano Oristanio, Since the appeal against his five-game suspension still running, he could just start in the base. It was also striking that former captain Damon Mirani started on the bench.
Van Mieghem worth gold
The first chance of the match was for Vitesse: Xavier Mbuyamba clumsily handed in the ball, leaving Bartosz Bialek to choose the corner. However, the Pole shot wide. In the twelfth minute, the home team made it 1-0. Franco Antonucci pulled the ball from the left and Van Mieghem hit a Vitesse defender. In the unspectacular first half there was one more great chance to note: Van Mieghem captured the ball after which he brought Oristanio into position. The Italian did not get the ball past goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen from close range.
In the second half, both teams were very sloppy with the ball. Volendam therefore had little to fear for the visitors. With Henk Veerman coming in as a substitute, the home team got poison in the team. It caused an impulse that led to the 2-0 in the 68th minute. The retracted defender Josh Flint went into the combination with Veerman, pulled the ball in front, after which Van Mieghem was in the right place to make his second of the afternoon. For the attacker, it was the first time in his career that he scored twice in one Eredivisie match.
Volendam climbs to fourteenth place in the ranking with 20 points from 22 games. The meeting with NEC awaits Volendam next week. On Saturday evening, kick-off is at 9 p.m. in De Goffert.
