Rebellin’s death, truck driver under house arrest

The German has been in prison since August 25 last year. He will have to stay in Italy with the electronic bracelet

Wolfgang Rieke, the 63-year-old German truck driver who hit and killed the cycling champion Davide Rebellin on 30 November 2022, was granted house arrest. The decision of the judges of the Vicenza court was notified today and comes a few days after the first hearing in which the prosecutor’s office gave its consent for a plea bargain of 3 years and 11 months for the crimes of aggravated vehicular homicide and omission of assistance. Rieke will therefore be released from the Vicenza prison where he has been locked up since 25 August 2023 with the electronic bracelet and will remain in Italy and precisely in an apartment in the Treviso area where he will be hosted by friends. The defense with lawyers Andrea Nardin and Enrico Ambrosetti expressed satisfaction with the decision which accepts what was requested during the hearing. On March 11th the reservation on the plea bargaining will be lifted by the Berico Court.
