Borussia Dortmund may be without goalkeeper and top performer Gregor Kobel for longer than initially feared. At least that’s what a recent media report says.
Around the small district derby against VfL Bochum last Sunday (3:1), BVB officials around head coach Edin Terzic only announced that Dortmund’s number one was missing due to illness.
As “Bild” reported on Tuesday, this illness is persistent and could cost the 26-year-old the away game on Friday evening (from 8:30 p.m.) at 1. FC Heidenheim.
According to the newspaper report, the Swiss is suffering from a persistent ear infection that is currently making it impossible to play football.
It goes on to say that Kobel suffers from stabbing pain in the affected ear, sensitivity to noise and dizziness.
As things currently stand, it is most likely that substitute keeper Alexander Meyer will again be between the posts for the Black and Yellows in the Bundesliga duel in Heidenheim on Friday evening. The 32-year-old had already represented Kobel in the 3-1 home win against Bochum, but has only made two competitive appearances for the runner-up this season.
Bensebaini back at BVB
Dortmund’s regular goalkeeper Kobel is by no means the only one who has recently had to struggle with health problems. Most recently, regular player Julian Brandt and BVB veteran Marco Reus were also missing because they were injured or bedridden. You had to sit out due to flu and were not back on the training pitch on Tuesday either.
After all, Ramy Bensebaini returned to the training ground in Dortmund-Brackel on Tuesday after he was eliminated early from the Africa Cup with his Algerian national team.
