Reality series Ruud en Olcay will not get a second season: ‘I’m sorry I did it’ | show

The reality series about Ruud de Wild and Olcay Gulsen will not get a second season. That is what the main characters say in the last episode of the series, which can be seen on streaming service NPO Plus from Monday.

Gulsen questions the series. “I think we shouldn’t have done it, that we didn’t need it,” she says. “I am sorry I did it. Especially because I see how much it hurt you,” she continues, referring to De Wild who is said to be “damaged” by the series and wakes up at night from all the negative comments. “I had a conversation with PowNed this week and then the television director said: ‘One thing: there will be no season two,” adds de Wild. “And then I had to chuckle a bit and I thought: well, it’s nice of you to say it, because I was still very much in doubt.”

Despite everything, Gulsen believes that they can be proud of the fact that they ‘did it nicely’. “Look at what’s coming at you. I didn’t expect that,” she says. “I expected it to be intense, but I did not expect that talk shows would be filled with people who would think something about it.”

The ratings of the reality series have fallen in recent weeks. The fifth episode was seen by 350,000 people in prime time on Wednesday. The NPO stated emphatically that it was ‘satisfied’ with the program and its reach. ,,I find Ruud & Olcay a disarming program that is well made”, says linear manager Remco van Westerloo. “Apart from the fact that we are not only guided by viewing figures at public broadcasting, we are satisfied with this program and also with the total reach.” According to the NPO, the series mainly reached many viewers online.
