Wouter Goes kept Feyenoord striker Santiago Giménez from scoring for two games. The young AZ defender did an excellent job, but he was very disappointed afterwards in the mixed zone. The Alkmaarders lost without a chance to Feyenoord in the quarter-finals of the KNVB Cup (2-0). “It wasn’t good enough.”
“I think the pressure was better last Sunday and now we chased the ball a lot,” Wouter Goes explains the difference between the two meetings with Feyenoord. “The spaces were too big and if those two chances of ours don’t go in, it will be a difficult match.”
Poku vs Zeefuik
So realism at Goes and Maarten Martens also saw a different AZ than three days ago in Alkmaar. The absence of top scorer Vangelis Pavlidis made a big difference. Now the AZ coach opted for Ernest Poku in the striker and not the latest addition Lequincio Zeefuik. “Poku is in good shape and with Zeefuik the question is how long he can last.”
