Real-time Google Maps data temporarily disabled in Ukraine

It is temporarily impossible to assess the situation of congestion on roads and public places in Ukraine using the Google Maps service. Drivers of vehicles will receive data on traffic jams only while traveling in the region.

Alphabet Inc. temporarily disabled some Google Maps tools for Ukraine, which provide real-time information about traffic jams and congestion of various public places, such as restaurants and shops. This is reported Reuters with reference to the company.

Features that showed traffic and occupancy of public places were disabled on February 27 “for the safety of local communities” after consulting with sources, including regional authorities, the company said.

At the same time, Google said that real-time traffic information remains available to drivers in Ukraine using turn-by-turn navigation features.

Russia has been conducting a military operation in Ukraine since February 24, its goal is to protect the DPR and LPR, as well as the “demilitarization and denazification” of Ukraine. After the outbreak of hostilities, the EU countries, the USA, Great Britain and other countries imposed sanctions on Russia. In particular, large banks and the Central Bank were subject to restrictions, the blocking extended, among other things, to operations related to the management of reserves and assets of the Central Bank.
