Real Madrid makes a mistake after Alaba’s own goal

The German soccer professionals Toni Kroos and Antonio Rüdiger dropped points with Real Madrid in Spain’s La Liga.

At Sevilla FC, the frontrunners around the two legionnaires only managed a 1-1 draw (0-0) on Saturday. The Royals had previously won three games in a row.

An own goal by former Bayern professional David Alaba (74th) had put Real behind on the debut of new Sevilla coach Diego Alonso, before ex-Leverkusen player Daniel Carvajal (78th) equalized with a header after a Kroos free kick.

With 25 points, Real continues to lead the table ahead of the surprise team FC Girona (22). The Madrilenians have won eight of their ten games of the season so far, and in addition to the draw against Sevilla, there was a 3-1 defeat in the city derby at Atletico Madrid in September.

Kroos and Rüdiger in the starting line-up at Real Madrid

Kroos and Rüdiger were in the starting line-up in Seville when the hosts resisted from the start. Ivan Rakitic and Lucas Ocampos (23′) had good chances, on the other hand the 37-year-old Real icon Sergio Ramos, now active for Sevilla, cleared a free kick from Kroos (34′) off the line.

Real seemed better in the second half, but Alaba directed a deflected cross from world champion Marcos Acuna into his own goal. Four minutes later, Kroos found Carvajal with his free-kick cross from the right side.

Meanwhile, Real Sociedad defeated Real Mallorca 1-0 (0-0), while Getafe FC drew 1-1 (1-1) against Betis Sevilla.
