Bilbao (dpa) – Real Madrid has expanded its lead at the top of the table in Spain. The soccer team of coach Carlo Ancelotti came to a 2-1 (2-1) at Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday.
Real are now eight points ahead of Sevilla FC, who have played one game less. Sevilla had played 1-1 against FC Barcelona the day before.
In Bilbao, Real took the lead thanks to two early goals from Karim Benzema (4th / 7th minute). In the turbulent opening phase, Oihan Sancet Tirapu (10th) also scored the next goal, but it wasn’t enough for the home side.
Local rivals Atlético Madrid, on the other hand, conceded a 1: 2 in the catch-up game in Granada. It was the fourth consecutive defeat for the defending champions. The Portuguese João Felix had put the guests in the lead after 100 seconds, but the home side turned the game around by the 61st minute. At Atlético, coach Diego Simeone is celebrating his ten-year service anniversary.
