A really shitty situation that Real has right now. If Benzema performed as usual, it would probably already be a done deal to get Haaland, but the guy is tearing everything down and is in the form of his life. You can’t get Haaland like that. Who are you betting on the bench? On the other hand, Benzema will be 35 in the summer and a legitimate question is how long this will continue. The Haaland departure comes a year too early for Real. I can absolutely understand these mind games with a return loan to Dortmund. So you will probably have to look around for another striker in 1-2 years. Even if Mbappe comes, I don’t see him as a 100% striker like Haaland or Benzema.
You’re absolutly right. From Real’s point of view, I would finally make the transfer of Mbappe clear and maybe upgrade to 1-2 more positions next summer and plan another season with Benzema. Maybe a slightly better back-up in the center of the storm, but generally plan for another year with the storm Mbappe-Benzama-Vinicius and get a top-class Benzema replacement in the summer of 23.
The only problem will be that Halland will probably no longer be on the market and he will instead join City next summer. And what other reasonably affordable striker would suit Real and follow in Benzema’s footsteps?
Another possibility would be to make Halland’s transfer clear this summer, but to refuse to BVB in another year. Just a spontaneous thought.
