“Winner Guy Who Never Pauses”
Antonio Rudiger is back in action after his painful Champions League campaign when he paid for the 1-1 equalizer at Shakhtar Donetsk with a gash in his face. This was confirmed by Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti at the press conference before the top game against FC Barcelona (Sunday, 4:15 p.m.).
“He’s in good shape and only has a mask to keep the wound from reopening. He has great desire, is a fighter. Rüdiger is very strong in tackles and headers, in both penalty areas. It’s no surprise that he ended up scoring against Shakhtar. He also brings his mentality, his personality, he’s a winner who never takes a break. In training and in everything else,” enthused the former Bayern coach (quoted via real total) about the newcomer.
In central defense, Rüdiger has shared playing time with David Alaba (30) and Éder Militão (24) this season and started seven of 13 games. On Sunday he could be the twelfth German in the Clásico, after Toni Kroos, Mesut Özil, Sami Khedira, Christoph Metzelder, Bodo Illgner, Uli Stielike, Paul Breitner, Günter Netzer and Bernd Schuster as the tenth in the “Royal” jersey. In addition to Schuster, who was active for both clubs, Marc-André ter Stegen and Emil Walter also ran for the Catalans.
