In the Issue we pose a question about a current theme to our readers five days a week. Do you expect Joost Klein’s Eurovision song to reach a high final spot? We asked our readers that in the column the matter.
The song with which the 26-year-old musician represents the Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö is going very well. The clip has already been viewed more than 5.4 million times on YouTube. Europapa can also count on 150,000 likes on YouTube. Klein’s song has already been streamed more than half a million times on Spotify in the Netherlands. The leading Wiwibloggs already predicted that Europapa could easily become ‘the party song of Eurovision’. We are curious what you think: goes Europapa will indeed become the party song of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024? Or do you not really appreciate Joost Klein’s exciting happy hardcore? We asked our readers that in the column the matter. Here is a selection of the responses.

Of course, this is gold! This is also the Netherlands and we show that beautifully with this entry. There will be plenty of people who don’t like this, but do they watch the Eurovision Song Contest faithfully every year? I do not think so. If it’s not your party, you can wait patiently for the Top 2000 and vote Queen back to number 1. To each their own. Good luck Joost, enjoy!
Paul van Dijk
That song really has nothing at all. Would do well as a carnival hit, including the artist. I would be really surprised if it makes it to the finals.

Top 10 should be possible with this song. Winning seems less likely to me. A lot will also depend on the presentation during the Eurovision Song Contest. The video clip is very good, but a live performance is something else.
Henk Mast
A poor copy of it Welcome to the marquee. Perhaps a smart song for the Eurovision Song Contest, but musically terrible.
Jasper Rimmelswan
I am fine with it. A nice bit of nostalgia immediately came up, thanks to the gabbing. It’s a crazy song, sung by a crazy guy. Nowadays that is a recipe for success at the Eurovision Song Contest. I never really look at it anymore. I’m in England, where they brought in Olly Alexander from Years & Years. No idea what ‘our’ song is, but that’s a pretty big name.
Silvia Oskam
If this song elicits so many reactions from young and old, then Joost has done something very well. It is difficult to predict whether he will win, but I wish him the best.
William Lemans
I think and hope that this time we will hit the nail on the head and take first place. It’s a top song.
Richard Kien
I’m very excited about it. Back to the 90’s. Fan of Joost. Authenticity is a great asset.
Leon Dijkstra
I hope not. It’s a Eurovision Song Contest and that means singing. Many do not meet this requirement. And certainly not him.
Liek Weerdberendse
Not my style, but enthusiastic! It stays in my head. Just a shame about the ending. This is not fully understood by non-Dutch speakers. But I give him a very good chance.
Quest Sandhoorn
It’s the biggest freak show of the year. Where are the times when it was still about music? Now it’s a matter of which country sends the most insane entry. Shame.
A. de Graaf
Sorry, but I like the song Europapa nothing at all. Unfortunately, it fits in with the clownish Eurovision Song Contest. I haven’t watched it for years because it’s not my kind of music. That doesn’t matter, tastes differ after all. When it comes to craziness, Joost Klein has a good chance of a good result.
Paul Krause
Will score high and possibly even win. The Dutch in particular complain about it, but internationally the appreciation is very high, see all YouTube comments.
Michel Collignon
There’s no telling what’s happening. In recent years, the most bizarre songs have sometimes been declared the winners. You don’t hear from some of them at all anymore. Mayflies. It no longer seems to be about the song but about the most ridiculous, clownish, extravagant act. Everyone has their own taste and I’ll leave it at that.
Eline van de Laar
Absolute! This song has so many layers, is so surprising, happy and moving, you want to listen to it again and again to discover even more. The text, a letter to his father who was lost far too soon, is like a poem and has a stunning sound. And the music is a mix with more than meets the eye. Pure art, from a true artist. Joost Klein, dream big!
Kees Naaktgeboorte
I don’t think so, but I think it’s genius. Just be crazy again and go crazy. As a 67-year-old, it also makes me happy and I automatically move along. Delicious.
Peter van der Stoep
I think it will reach the finals anyway. The song is catchy. If you hear it once, it’s stuck in your head (that’s why there are haters!). Smartly produced. Deeper meaning and many hints to other countries. Whether it wins the final depends on the live performance and some luck. But he has already won over many people. By the way, I haven’t said whether I like it myself. I’ll leave that open.
