Trainer John van ‘t Schip enjoyed Jordan Henderson’s debut at Ajax in the home match against PSV (1-1). “He immediately showed why we brought him in,” he said. “He has been doing that all week during training. And today also before and after the match and at half time. He is a leader who helps young players.”
Van ‘t Schip saw Ajax give away fewer opportunities with Henderson than in recent months. “But that was also because we played against a team that also wanted to put pressure on us. Then you automatically play more compactly. But we have to continue like this.”
Van ‘t Schip saw an exciting first half. “In the second half the game was halted more often due to injuries. Luuk de Jong headed onto the post for PSV, but we also had chances in the second half. We certainly could have won. And if you see where we come from “We are making progress, but we still need to make more progress.”
Van ‘t Schip took charge of Ajax when the record champion was the last in the Premier League. Now the club from the capital is peeking into third place in the rankings. Shouldn’t Ajax continue with him as head coach? “I don’t want to comment on that now,” he said.
