For the time being, the NS does not know whether train traffic in the north of the Netherlands will be resumed today. The railway company decided this morning to suspend trains in a large part of the northern Netherlands due to storm Poly. The NS website states that this is expected to take until 4 p.m., but possibly longer.
“It is not yet known whether train traffic will be possible again during the course of the day,” said the NS, which halted train traffic in Drenthe at 9.30 am.
The NS announces that train traffic has been discontinued to and from Alkmaar, Amersfoort Central, Amsterdam Central, Groningen, Haarlem, Hilversum, Hoorn, Leeuwarden, Schiphol, Utrecht Central, Weesp, Zaandam and Zwolle. On Twitter, the NS indicates that there is currently no replacement transport for stranded passengers.
The journey planner of the NS is also unavailable due to overload and a malfunction, according to the company.
Arriva is now also scrapping trains in Friesland and Groningen. In Drenthe, the Arriva trains will continue to run for the time being.
