Hamas leader: “Gaza settlement without Hamas is a delusion”

Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh thinks a settlement in the Gaza Strip without Hamas is a “delusion”. “But I am open to all ideas and initiatives that could put an end to Israel’s aggression,” he said in a TV speech.

For the Israeli Prime Minister, there can be no role for Hamas in the future of Gaza. Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized once again that Israel will not stop until Hamas is defeated. “We will continue until the end and nothing less than that.”

Biden receives families of American hostages

US President Joe Biden has received at the White House the families of fellow countrymen held hostage by Hamas in the Gaza Strip. The terrorist organization is probably still holding about eight American citizens.

“It was a great meeting“, responded Jonathan Dekel-Chen (one of the family members; ed.) after the conversation. “I think we all walked out with the feeling that we, as families of American-Israeli hostages no better friend could have in the White House then President Biden.” The president previously spoke to the families by telephone, but now met them in real life.

According to Israel, Hamas still holds about 135 hostages. Because the fighting has flared up again, there appears to be no prospect of a release for the time being. Biden urged the leaders of Israel and Qatar, among others, to release US citizens as quickly as possible.

Dozens of schools in Lebanon closed

UNICEF, the United Nations children’s rights agency, says the war in the Gaza Strip is having an impact on the daily lives of children in Lebanon. Their schools are often closed as a result of the conflict, it is said.

Dozens of schools in southern Lebanon have been forced to close since violence erupted in the Gaza Strip on October 7. The schools are often used to accommodate refugees. Violence has also flared up at the border between Israel and Lebanon since then. About 6,000 students in the border region can no longer go to school. According to UNICEF, some schools in the border region are open, but few children are present.

“This terrible crisis is affecting the childhood of hundreds of thousands of young people. The severity of the crisis is shattering their childhood dreams, leaving them without education, happiness and prospects for a good future,” said Edouard Beigbeder, UNICEF delegate in Lebanon. “The daily suffering of children must stop.”
