Reactions to opening Groningen gas tap: ’50 percent must go to the construction of Groningen’ | reader letters

‘After Gazprom has turned off the gas tap, we are faced with an exceptional situation’ and ‘the costs of healthcare are being unnecessarily increased’: these are some reactions to news topics that interest readers. Below are the letters to readers that appeared in the newspaper of Thursday 2 June. You can send in a response yourself via [email protected].

Russian gas | Only Groningen gas by exception? That’s now

‘Gronings gas elephant in the room’ (AD 1-6). It is understandable that political The Hague does not want to chase the Groningers out. It has been promised that the gas tap will be closed. It was also told that gas could possibly still be pumped up, but only in an exceptional situation. After the gas tap by Gazprom, we have to deal with such an exceptional situation. It is easy to talk as a resident of the Randstad. But if 60 percent of the people of Groningen can also understand it, then politicians should cut the knot as soon as possible.

R. Kroese, Voorschoten.

Russian gas II | Open Groningen gas tap

Our energy bill will be even higher this winter. So the Groningen gas tap must open. Make a law that 50 percent of the gas from Groningen will go to the construction of Groningen. So that we are not left out in the cold and they are no longer out in the cold.

Ruud Crane, Aalsmeer.

Anglicization | That TV chef at RTL can’t get enough either

‘Skip that superfluous English’ (Comment 1-6). English replaces Dutch. Not only game talk and other established Anglicisms – we are only going viral – in other media we are also permeated by the poverty of Dutch. Just like Reinier van de Berg lifts his right leg nine times out of ten (just pay attention) during his introductory weather talk, RTL TV chef Hugo Kennis subscribes to the following six concepts in different compositions: crunchyspicytoppingbitecrispyDressingNot a word of Spanish. Just like we used to count the number of times a teacher used his favorite safe word – so – in class, we now do it at Hugo’s pitches† It also could have: salad dressing (also not quite Dutch) instead of dressing and topping instead of topping, crispy for crunchycrispy for crispy, spicy for spicy and bite for bite. Anyway, Hugo Knowledge

Leo Eemland, Amersfoort.

Vitamin D | Healthcare costs unnecessarily high

‘Removing vitamin D from the basic package is expensive’ (Opinion 1-6). Remove vitamin D from basic package? With great surprise I read the opinion of pharmacist Reinier Bax on the opinion page. Vitamin D costs at the drugstore chains for a daily dose per year as much as one and a half kilos of apples in the supermarket. It has been made into medicine by pharmaceuticals while being an extremely cheap dietary supplement. It happened to me too, but when I saw the price I went for the solution that costs me about 3 euros per year. In this way the healthcare costs are unnecessarily increased.

Leo Meewisse, The Hague.

straw | Just drink from cup

Minister Kuipers wants to replace the paper straw, logically. I also don’t understand why this is approved. A simple solution: no straw. I drink my milkshake from the cup, just like soda. And for children there is a drinking spout on a cup. Why make it difficult?

Leon de Koning, Dordrecht.
