Berlin (AP) – The Austrian soccer champions RB Salzburg have prematurely extended the contract with coach Matthias Jaissle for another season until June 30, 2025. The club announced.
The 34-year-old native of Nürtingen will not switch to the Bundesliga. After the coaching earthquake in the German upper house, Jaissle was traded as a possible candidate at VfL Wolfsburg for the released Florian Kohfeldt.
After the season finale last weekend, four coaches had to vacate their positions – in addition to Kohfeldt, Adi Hütter (Borussia Mönchengladbach), Markus Weinzierl (FC Augsburg) and Sebastian Hoeneß (TSG 1899 Hoffenheim).
Jaissle, who became head coach of Mozartstadt in April 2021, had thrown Wolfsburg and his team out of the Champions League with Salzburg. He also got the league and cup double and made it into the round of 16 in the premier class for the first time. But then it was the end of the line against FC Bayern Munich.
“In that case, I’m an absolute believer. The task here in Salzburg is a matter close to my heart. I feel very comfortable in the club and in the region, I really appreciate the conditions and the whole environment here,” said Jaissle in a club statement.
