RB Leipzig: With individual class in the round of 16, football | Europa League – MDR – Regional

Tedesco focuses on individual class

That was the RB route in the first leg, as his coach Tedesco revealed. “If you know that you can concede goals, maybe even win 3-2, that changes a lot.” It wasn’t quite enough last Thursday when it was 2-2 in the Leipzig Arena, but RB actually took a high risk in the first half, stood high and relied on the class of the top-class offensive. “A lot of things in the last third cannot be planned,” explained Tedesco. It is all the more important in the second leg to individualists like Christopher Nkunku, Andre Silva, Emil Forsberg or Dani Olmo.

Strong bench

It was that same Olmo at Leipzig 6:1 away win against Hertha BSC turned things around last Sunday after coming on as a substitute. When Tedesco came on in the 60th minute, the score was 1-1 and the Berliners pressed for another goal. A minute later, in his first action, Olmo played a sugar pass to Christopher Nkunku, who was then fouled, earning a red card and a penalty. RB took the lead and got into a frenzy: “The bank can steer a game in the right direction,” said Tedesco happily.

“La Real” vulnerable in the second half

Possibly also against Real Sociedad: Tedesco did not want to commit to his starting line-up for the second leg. Everything is possible, both the same starting eleven as in Berlin and five or six changes, according to Tedesco. “Let yourself be surprised.” At least the last game of “La Real” could indicate that the RB coach is back on his strong bench. In the Basque derby against Athletic Bilbao, Real Sociedad lost 4-0 – but all the goals came after half-time when the side lost their discipline in defence. In front of 34,000 fans in their home Estadio Anoeta, the Spaniards seek redress. “The fans throw them forward whips,” guessed Tedesco.
