Under the new coach Ole Werner, Willi Orbán had to hand over the captain’s armband at RB Leipzig to David Raum after three years. The 32-year-old now confirmed that he did not necessarily do this voluntarily. “I would have liked to continue to do so. I am one who takes responsibility,” he said in a media round on Tuesday.
Orbán near Leipzig has been under contract since 2015, only Lukas Klostermann has been with the current squad longer. However, his status in the team did not suffer anything due to the supposed degradation, emphasizes the central defender, who was on the field in all four competitive games over the full distance. “It just goes together. Not much has changed for me. I continue to put myself in the service of the team and try to go in front.”
Orbán near Leipzig also has to get used to many new teammates. Eight new additions for a total of 136 million euros were signed in summer, only Bayer 04 Leverkusen spent more money on newcomers. On the other hand, 18 players left the club, including long -time colleagues like Yussuf Poulsen. “Fresh blood and quality is always good for us,” believes Orbán, although not everything is going perfectly. “We are currently in a finding phase. We have to see that we are pulling results in order to be able to work in peace. Nevertheless, it will remain a long way.”
With the defense routine itself, nothing is currently indicated by a departure. His contract runs until 2027 and “two years in football are a long time. I feel good and try to develop myself further in a somewhat upscale football age.” Offers from other clubs “I rejected everyone.”
